SUMMARY:Spring Well-Being Series: From Cynicism to Radical Acceptance - How to cope during challenging times
DESCRIPTION:Register here \nThis one-hour interactive workshop will explore cynicism and how it is often leveraged as a protection mechanism during challenging and overwhelming times.  We will also delve into the concept of radical acceptance and how it allows us to accept what is happening around us in a way that opens us to intentionally choosing and changing our path forward. Cynicism abdicates our sense of what we can control from the perspective of what is wrong or painful in our environments (and convinces us it’s not worth trying to change). Conversely\, radical acceptance supports us in facing our realities and in identifying what is within our control.  \nAll members of the UW Medicine community are welcome to participate. \nSpeakers\nAnne Browning\, Ph.D.\nChief Well-Being Officer & Associate Dean for Well-Being\, UW Medicine\nFounding Director\, UW Resilience Lab\nAffiliate Assistant Professor\, UW College of Education \nMarie Cockerham\, MN\, RN\, CCRN\, ECPR-C\nDirector\, Care4U Wellbeing and Support\nAssociate Director\, Patient Care Services \nCheri Constantino-Shor\, MSN\, RN\, PMH-BC\, CMSRN\nDirector of Professional Engagement and Nursing Excellence\, UWMC Northwest

SUMMARY:Well-Being and Resilience Series 4: Coping with Uncertainty and the Effects of Chronic and Acute Stress on our Well-Being
DESCRIPTION:Objectives: Look at the impacts of uncertainty on our well-being\, especially in a COVID and post-COVID era. Examine the shift in impacts of stress on our well-being through exploring both acute and chronic stressors in our environment. Explore the concept of radical acceptance as developed in dialectical behavioral therapy. \nContent: Look at models of post disaster recovery and emotional well-being. Normalize the challenges we have experienced over the last year and will experience in the coming years through validating emotional responses and considering the impacts of anniversary reactions and on-going disruptions. Discuss research on the differences between acute and chronic stress. Explore one’s agency or control in times of chronic and acute stress to leverage radical acceptance of the challenging situations we find ourselves in during our careers and lives. \nTake Away: Chronic and acute stress impacts our well-being in terms of our mental\, physical\, and social health. Focusing on the agency and control we have in difficult situations allows us to accept reality\, take action where we can\, and to stay hopeful for the future. \nThis event will be recorded\, with recording and slides posted to the Faculty Affairs website afterward. \nRegister
