Student Progress Committee (SPC)
SPC monitors medical students’ progress toward graduation to determine if the standards of the University of Washington School of Medicine are being met in individual cases. SPC performs the critical function of appraising and interviewing students who struggle in the medical student curriculum, including deficiencies in academics, clinical performance, and conduct. SPC ultimately decides how medical students can remediate and stay in school, or if they should be dismissed from UWSOM.
Meetings and Involvement
SPC meetings take place once a month via Zoom and are approximately 2-3 hours. Voting members are required to attend at least 9 of the 12 scheduled meetings each year. An additional ~30 minutes per month is required to review student cases in advance of the meeting. Term length is 4 years, with the option to renew for one additional term for a total of 8 years.
