Creating Your Teaching Portfolio for Promotion

Overview

The UW School of Medicine Office of Faculty Affairs hosts annual virtual career development workshops. These workshops focus on building skills and sharing tools that faculty can use to advance their careers and promotional opportunities in academic medicine. Current Faculty Career Development workshops focus on two skills critical to faculty advancement; building a strong CV and creating a teaching portfolio.

Objectives
  1. Understand how the Teaching Portfolio is part of the promotions process but differs from the CV.
  2. Identify what information to include and emphasize in a Teaching Portfolio.
  3. Identify and review examples of Teaching Portfolio content beyond teaching and publications such as teaching philosophy statements, educational administration, and other teaching activities.
  4. Understand and identify Teaching Portfolio requirements for individual based on Department and faculty pathway.
  5. Identify timeline and resources needed to create and maintain a Teaching Portfolio.

The University of Washington School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
