Across UW Medicine, we have formed committees to help us hear the voices of our employees across the diverse work we do. These committees also serve to provide a global awareness to representatives of what is happening in our system, which allows us to share challenges and best practices with each other. I want to thank everyone who participates in our well-being committees for their time and energy in working to improve the work environment for all.
If you are interested in getting involved in well-being work for your area, please feel reach out uwm-wellbeing@uw.edu.
Steering Committee
The UW Medicine Well-Being Steering Committee brings together leaders from UW Medicine who guide and intersect with well-being work to discuss concerns, needs, and opportunities to build system-level shared awareness. Collectively, the committee weighs options, makes recommendations for UW Medicine’s well-being initiatives, such as grants and surveys, and helps view all UW Medicine initiatives through a lens of well-being impacts. Across UW Medicine, the work within the School of Medicine shared services, and our hospitals and clinics are inherently different. The committee looks at common themes impacting well-being with an awareness that different workflows and cultures will necessitate specific local-level implementation. The committee is responsible for developing a strategic plan to guide and focus the next three years of work. The committee meets every other month and representatives of various roles and entities serve by appointment.

Departmental Well-Being Leads
Each of departments within the School of Medicine has appointed a Well-Being Lead to serve as a point person to help coordinate efforts on behalf of their department. Leads from biomedical research departments and clinical departments meet separately four times a year and jointly twice a year to surface and discuss issues related to well-being. Significantly, the leads support the Well-Being Survey data analysis for their department along with the important triangulation with qualitative feedback. Leads then work with their broader department and the chair to develop well-being priorities and action plans.
